Berman-Gard Student Research Award

The Berman-Gard student research award will be granted to a graduate student whose research specifically focuses on the broad arena of employing psychological science to address events, circumstances, and/or interventions that further the well-being of the community or those at risk who live in the community.

This broad definition can describe a multitude of circumstances and/or interventions, designed to assist underserved, at risk populations. Some examples are: the impact of the immigrant experience on children and families; the psychological impact of natural or human-created disasters; the impact of COVID-19 on aspects of family life and/or dynamics; experiences of first-responders; bringing information about mental health and psychological well-being to the public, organizations that are working in the NGO or pro bono space, and/or the impact of a nonprofit organization’s program in the community. The research must be at the stage where the data has been collected, if not yet fully analyzed.

Applicants may be either Masters or Ph.D./Psy.D. level. A cash award and plaque will be announced at the Georgia Psychological Association Annual Business Meeting Luncheon on Saturday, April 27, 2024 and also shared on the GPF Website.

Deadline: The applications for this award may be submitted by the researcher or their Mentor using the form linked below by February 29, 2024.

Berman-Gard Excellence in Service Award

The Berman-Gard award has been established by Dr. Betsy Gard in honor of her late husband, Dr. Barry Berman.  The award is given to a Georgia psychologist who has distinguished themselves by lending their expertise to a non-profit organization – either directly (ex., psychotherapy) or indirectly (ex., consultation or leadership).  The services must be provided without compensation.

Dr. Gard and members of the Georgia Psychological Foundation Board of Directors will consider all nominations and select the winner.  The psychologist will be recognized at the Awards Luncheon at the Georgia Psychological Association Annual Business Meeting in Gainesville on Saturday, April 27, 2024.

Deadline: Submissions of nominations for the award should be made by February 29, 2024 using the form linked below. Self nominations are welcome.
