Student Flash Talks

Student Flash Talks

This presentation format is designed for psychology undergraduate and graduate students to present on a topic in five minutes or less. Presentations can include original research (qualitative or quantitative), theoretical or conceptual discussions, literature reviews, and case studies. A selection committee will choose up to 10 students who will present in person at GPA Annual Conference 2024. Each submission will be evaluated for acceptance based on adherence to the conference theme in that it presents a novel contribution to understanding innovations and insights in contemporary psychology. Examples of topics can include but are not limited to technology and AI, psychopharmacology, health equity, intervention efficacy, suicide risk management, intersectionality, cultural competence, ethics, and other aspects of the changing landscape of psychological practice.

Please submit an abstract of up to 300 words outlining your presentation and its connection to the conference theme. You must cite at least 5 peer-reviewed articles supporting your research that are recent within the last 10 years. APA format is required.

Submission Rules:

• All presentations must occur in person at GPA 2024.

• Presentations are limited to five minutes and presenters will be cut-off at the timer.

• A single static PowerPoint slide is required. No slide transitions, animations or “movement” of any type; the one slide is up from the beginning until the end of the presentation.

• Slides must be submitted to the GPAGS Flash Talk committee in advance for compilation and review. Slides will be due one month prior to GPA annual conference and should not be submitted with your abstract and application.

• Electronic media (e.g., audio and video files) are not permitted in isolation or embedded within slides.

• No additional persons or props (e.g., costumes, musical instruments, laboratory equipment) are permitted.

• Data presented in the event should be considered as information likely to enter the public domain.

• Presentations are to be oratory (i.e., no poems, raps, songs).

• Presentations are considered to have commenced when the emcee states it is time to begin and the slide goes up.

• Unfortunately, no financial support is available to fund presenters’ travel or lodging.

• Unlike the poster presentations, the flash talks will not be judged, and no prizes will be awarded.
